Remarks by Sharon Glass: I don’t know how you spent your Tuesday afternoon, I spent mine going over this 58 page 2013 Veto letter Below are some things I saw that the Governor has vetoed, read the whole document, you may find other things that we can thank the Governor for vetoing. My eyes were really opened to what goes on with a budget, and I know we have to be more informed about budgets. Please keep in mind that these are just the veto’s, I have not seen the full budget to see what we may have wanted him to veto that he let by. However, he deserves our appreciation so please make an effort to contact the Governor’s office to thank him for saving Florida taxpayers money.
Page 22 – $1,500,000 from the General Revenue fund, and $2,129,325 from the Medical Trust Fund for special Medicaid payments for Bethesda Hospital located in Palm Beach County.
Page 25 – $450,000 form General Revenue fund for Mental Health Initiative – Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Health Initiative.
Page 26. $400,000 and $2,000.000 from two private organizations asking for tax dollars
Page 28 – $50,000 and $1,000.000 for programs for Localized groups that do not benefit statewide.
Page 31 – $1,725,000 and $610,000 County health departments asking for localized monies from State tax payers
Page 36 – $100,000 and $100,000 from a group that only services three counties and is supported through federal and local funding.
Page 37 – $550,000 This is the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Dept. request that we all made calls to the governor on, and is the responsibility of local government.
Page 43 – $1,000,000 The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission making a request for the Citizens Support Group (a nonprofit group) to create a fund raising program.
Page 44 – $50,000,000…that’s right 50 Million! – to be used to interconnect trails between St. Petersburg to Titusville. This one needs to be watched carefully in the future.
Page 52 – $3,570,750 – To be used for 8 county projects on Historical Courthouses and other specific county projects on historical buildings.
